New Year’s Resolution

Every New Year, we break out a list of things that we want to accomplish. Topping my list this year is working on getting my skin to look its best.  For the most part when we make our resolution lists we put up some good things, but the problem is we rarely keep up with them for more than a couple of weeks (and that’s speaking of the ones who really try to give it a go). It seems that we can’t seem to keep ourselves on track to following through on making changes. In part, this may have to do with the fact that while may be willing to work for the things that we want things and we usually tend to want them quickly. When it comes to our taking care of our skin, this is no exception.

What we forget is that there is no overnight perfect solution for repairing skin that will give you the results you crave. However, there are things that really do work and over a period of time can give you amazing results if you can just manage to actually follow through on what you need to do.  How many times have you gone out and bought the latest miracle cream or face wash only to stop using it after awhile? Or how about going in to get a treatment, such as a facial and then you never go back to keep up with the necessary upkeep? Clear skin is one of those things that I think everyone would love to have, myself included. So this coming year, I’m going to do everything I can to help my skin be at its best.

Although this article is named New Year’s Resolution, I would argue that what I am proposing for myself goes beyond just a “resolution”. I consider it to be something that I will incorporate and make into a lifelong change, that as such, will adapt to obtain the best results possible as I continue to age and have my skin change. I think we resolve to something and then once we obtain certain results we feel like we are done, but when it comes to your skin and keeping it looking beautiful it is something that we make part of our lives.

Does this mean that you have to go out and get procedures done every week and spend thousands of dollars a month on products? No. What it does mean, however, is that it is something you have to be committed to doing and as such should follow up on the things that will help you get there.

So here are a couple of tips for staying in line, if like me, you’re trying to work on having beautiful skin in 2014.

Finding What’s Right For You

Sometimes we’re not exactly sure what would be best for our faces. That’s okay, the practitioners at My Vida Spa are here to help you figure out what will work best for you. Not everyone’s skin is going to be the same, so what might work for you might not work for someone else and vice versa. So while something may have amazing results for your friends, sister, even mother’s skin, that does not guarantee that you will have the same results. Knowing what works for your skin will be a process, but one that in my opinion is well worth it.

Following Through on Treatments

This is one of those things that I have been guilty off in the past myself when it comes to other things, such as my hair or nails. Many times there are three reasons that one will not keep up with treatments:

– It’s too expensive

– Not seeing results fast enough

– You see results and think that’s it.

It’s too expensive:

This is a big reason for people not following up on treatments and it’s understandable. We want great results, but we don’t want to break the bank to do it. I will say this, however, you get what you pay for, meaning if you go out and pay $50 for a facial that’s what you’re going to get: a $50 facial. At My Vida Spa you may pay a little more, (Nothing outrageously exorbitant like you’ll find at some South Beach spas) but you will be getting what you paid for which means quality. The products used are of the highest quality and are chosen to optimize your results.

Not seeing results soon enough:

This harks back to what I was discussing earlier. People expect everything to happen at that exact moment, not even overnight in some cases. Let’s be realistic people…if you have problem skin, don’t expect to have immaculate skin after one facial, that’s just setting yourself up for disappointment. You have to understand that in the same way that your skin got progressively worse over time, it will take time for it to get better. Give things time and don’t discard the small improvements you will start to see because small improvements = progress.

You see results and think thats it:

On the opposite spectrum, some people will do everything they need to and once they get the results they are seeking they completely stop everything thinking they are done. Time for another reality check: If you have problem skin, it doesn’t mean you have to have problem skin forever, but in order to not have it you have to maintain it. Just because you get to were you want does not mean that if you don’t maintain a healthy skin regiment you can keep it. Chances are you stop taking care of your skin and it will revert back after some time. Think of it as being a kin to losing weight . If you reach your goal, but then proceed to stop eating healthy and exercising how you did to get to your goal, you’ll start to gain the weight back.

This doesn’t mean you’ll have to go in every week for a facial or treatment once your skin is where you want it, but you may need to go in every other week or once a month. Either way you should definitely stick to it because it will only benefit you and your skin in the end.

Proper and Continued Product Use

Using the products that will work for you how and when you are supposed to use them is essential if you really want to see results. Many times you’ll find yourself starting a skin care routine and then somewhere along the line you start to get lazy. You might forget to put on that lotion as you run out of the house in the morning or you might forget to put on a cream at night because you went out that night and got home late. This will definitely affect your results. I know how difficult it can be to keep a routine, trust me I am notorious for forgetting, but if you want the results you will have to commit to it.

Proper use also includes not abusing the products. What do I mean by abusing? Well, if you are supposed to be using a specific amount of cream and a certain amount of times a day, do not go overboard in an attempt to create faster results. All this may end up doing is actually irritating and damaging your skin more. Trust in the process and follow through with how you are supposed to use the products. It may take time, but the results will be worth it. Slathering on the product is not going to produce anything but a loss of product and money. Remember what gets penetrated into your skin is what is actually laying on the skin, so if you have a thick layer of product on your skin, you’re basically throwing product away. At the end of the day just know that a little bit goes very far.

Bare Your Skin….

This goes more for the ladies than it does for the guys because guys do it anyway. Ladies if you have problem skin make an effort to go makeup free whenever you can. I know…the horror! I know, through experience of my own, that this can be extremely difficult especially when our skin is at its worst because our first instinct is to cover it up with make-up. We all know, however, that as wonderful a job as that make-up may do to cover all your problem areas up, its just as horrible for your skin if you are trying to clear it up. So as much as it may sound dreadful, make-up off! You don’t need to be in full make-up in your house or to make a quick pit stop at the grocery store. Believe, you might feel naked without your make-up when you do it, but how wonderful will it feel when your skin is so beautiful that you don’t even need make-up to make it glow.

Make your change…

So as we ring in the New Year, remember that how well your skin will look this year will be dependent on the time and dedication you put into taking care of it. Don’t think of it as something temporary, but as a change in lifestyle. Let this be the year when you put your skin and its well being at the forefront of your thoughts and actions. It is your skin and its the only one you got.  I know it sounds like a lot but nothing worth truly having has ever come without work and while some may be blessed with the genetics for beautiful flawless skin, the rest of us have to work on it. Yet, as much work as it may be, once more I will say that in the end it is totally worth it!

Latisse – Bye Bye Baby Lashes

If you’re anything like me, then when it comes to getting ready to go out its all about the eyes. Unfortunately, for some of us this means time spent applying false lashes to give our eyes that extra va-va-va-voom that brings a great look together. Let’s face it, having long beautiful lashes can make a big difference. However, while fabulous in the effect they create, false eyelashes are a headache all their own. It can be a tedious process and, depending on what type your applying (strip, small individual clusters) it can take up to an hour to put them in. Once they are in you have to deal with constantly worrying about having them fall out or move out of place. As if that were not enough to deal with,  when they do fall out more often than not they take your lashes with them. Ouch! Forget about being able to touch your eyes either. When you have false lashes in, they pretty much become a no man’s land! Stay away from water and don’t you dare rub your eyes or they’ll end up falling or facing in all different directions like below.

Yet, even with all this many of us still go out and get false lashes. Why? Well, not everyone can be blessed with long beautiful lashes. I mean, Lord only knows why my brother was blessed with what I like to call “Bambi lashes” (you know the kind…there’s so long and perfectly curled that they practically remind you of Bambi), while I was left with short barely there lashes. The pull towards longer, fuller lashes, for myself at least, has been in how they can change your appearance. Something so seemingly minor, like the length of your lashes, can really open up your face and create a more youthful appearance. So off we have trudged to deal with the false lashes and the headache they create.  Latisse, however, has made having to deal with false lashes a thing of the past for many women and it may be able to do so for you as well.

How do you use it?

  1. Before you apply Latisse make sure your face is clean , especially of all eye make-up. If you wear contacts, you should also remove them.
  2. Place one drop of the solution on the disposable sterile applicator and apply it evenly along the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes.
  3. Remove any excess solution that you may have around the eyes with a tissue or an absorbent cloth.
  4. Repeat for the other upper eyelid using a new applicator.
  5.  Make sure to dispose of the applicator after each use as to avoid reusing it as this helps to prevent possible infection.
  6. If you use contacts, you may reinsert them after 15 minutes.

Does it work?

We all remember seeing the commercials with Brooke Shield’s and heard her talk about how well Latisse worked for her.  Shield’s has been a spokesperson for Latisse since its release back in 2009 and with results like the ones pictured below its no wonder why. But she’s not the only Hollywood starlet to find results in it.

Another advocate and celebrity spokesperson has been actress Claire Danes, who has claimed that Latisse worked so well for her that she actually ended up having to start TRIMMING her eyelashes because they were so long! Now how many of us wouldn’t want that problem! As you can tell by the pictures below, not only did her lashes grow longer and fuller, but they also grew darker. This is great because let’s face it how much nicer is it to just get up and go without having to worry about applying mascara or having to deal with the clumping and the mess it can cause.

Christina Hendricks, from hit TV show “Mad Men”,  has also been a long time Latisse user. She’s admitted in interviews that prior to her use of Latisse she, like so many of us, employed fake lashes to create her larger than life lashes. Upon use of Latisse, however, she no longer found the need to, siting that after a month of use she could see results.

The pictures above provides a look at results experienced by a Latisse user over a 16 week period. Already at the 8 week mark there is a visible difference in the length of the lashes. By the 16 week mark not only have lashes grown longer, but there is also a thickness that was previously missing. The side view is very telling and provides a stunning view of how much of an impact the growth can make.

With results such as these, is it any wonder why so many women have tried and keep using Latisse. If you’re tired of having to deal with false eyelashes and having to glob on a ton of makeup to achieve those beautiful lashes you’ve been dreaming of, get in contact with us at My Vida Spa on Sunset and come in to see If Latisse can help you say bye bye to those baby lashes.

Bringing Christmas Joy to a Family

It’s Christmas and thanks to the wonderful efforts of all involved, the Chase family was able to enjoy a joyous Christmas with a tree overflowing with gifts. We at My Vida Spa  along with our partners in this effort, the Miami Hypnosis Center and I Am Equilibrium,  are so grateful for the generous outpouring that we received in our efforts to help this family. It was a truly heartwarming experience to not only see, but feel the joy emanating from this wonderful family and all those who came to help in the effort.

On Monday helpers met at  My Vida Spa, located on Sunset Drive, to gather the gifts and canned donations for the family.

We then proceeded to gather them up so that we could load them up and take it them to the Chase Family’s home. As you can see below, there were quite a bit of gifts!!

There were actually so many gifts that we had to pack up 2 SUVs to get them all to the home, including canned goods and some delicious cupcakes that were made for the family by a supporter.

Once everything was loaded up we made our way to the Chase family home and were greeted by others who were there dropping off gifts as well. There was such a sense of warmth and genuine appreciation from both sides: on the one hand from the family for all that was being done for them and on the other from those helping for being allowed to take part in making those children’s Christmas a little happier.
It was amazing to see how by coming together and through the generosity of people who were moved by this families situation, we were able to put smiles not only on these children’s faces, but also on Alma’s at seeing her grandchildren, who she loves dearly, so happy.
1503817_10202705270970790_1885009527_n  It is truly a blessing to be able to help other’s and especially at a time when so many of us gather with our loved ones and are reminded of how fortunate we really are. Many times we take all that we have for granted not stopping to think that there are so many out there who are dealing with problems a lot bigger than we have to face and on a daily basis. While we didn’t have the ability to help out every single family struggling under a similar situation, we are so thankful that with the help of so many wonderful people we were able to at least help this one family who was so deserving of more than a little ray of Christmas cheer and joy.
Yet again, a huge thank you for all who helped to spread the word, donated (toys, canned goods, and money) and gave their time. Without all of you, this would not have been possible. Sometimes we think that to make a difference we have to do something big, but we miss an important lesson when we think this way: Though the steps and efforts we make may be small, with time they add up to create something big and powerful. As in this case, the small contributions of many came together to create a big impact on a family’s life. So from My Vida Spa, the Miami Hypnosis Center, I Am Equilibrium, and of course the Chase family, we send out our sincerest THANK YOU & may your holidays be filled with an abundance of cheer, joy, and love!!!!!
